SPAM Free Mailboxes with Greylisting

Another round against spammers has been won with the implementation of Greylisting. Whilst spammers are always going to find ways round anti-spam measures, this is the best and most comprehensive method yet.

Greylisting works by automatically rejecting mail, safe in the knowledge that Mail Servers will try several times to successfully send emails. If an email is genuine, on the second attempt the mail is accepted, usually with a delay of only a couple of minutes. A spammer's mail server will only try once, a "fire and forget" strategy, because they have so many targets.

Bacn (pronounced Bacon) on the other hand, is sometimes classed a spam but is not. It is mail that the user has subscribed to, but often unread and ignored by the user and does nothing but clutter their mailbox like conventional spam. With bacn, the user almost always has the option of opting out of the subscription, and is therefore their responsibility.

If you are sick of spam and would like a spam free mailbox, CookieOnline is offering spam free email accounts for £20 (ex. VAT) a year on our own maintained servers. Contact us to make an enquiry.

Note:some SPAM mail servers have got wise to this measure, and are now using real email addresses to get round it! However, it still remains one of the most effective measures.
